Section 232 Tariffs Update

Written by Reinaldo Rodriguez | Jun 23, 2025 1:00:00 PM

Per CSMS # 65340246 issued by CBP, effective for goods being entered beginning June 28, 2025, if the importer does not know the country of smelt and/or cast for a Section 232 aluminum product, the item must be reported with an “unknown” country of smelt and/or cast in conjunction with the Section 232 tariff number for Russian Section 232, and it will be subject to the 200% Section 232 duty that is applied to Russian aluminum imports.

With this new directive taking effect in less than 2 weeks, it is more important than ever to make sure that your suppliers are providing the necessary information to properly make entry for Section 232 products, including providing the country of smelt and/or cast for aluminum products, preferably directly on the commercial invoice.
